My Experience

In my capacity as an IT Engineer within the Data Center Management Team, known as ITOS, at Qualcomm, I played a pivotal role in the seamless operation of critical IT infrastructure. My responsibilities encompassed close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including the Server Management Group (SMG), IT Operations Services (ITOS), IT Network Group (ITNET), Data Management Group (DMG), and the Mission Critical Facilities Team (MCFT). My demonstrated expertise and commitment to excellence led to my well-deserved promotion from IT Engineer Associate to IT Engineer.

During my tenure, I balanced both ticket-based support and project-oriented tasks, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of Qualcomm's data center operations. Key contributions and responsibilities included:

  • Tier 1 Escalation Support: Provided round-the-clock Tier 1 escalation support for local data centers, server rooms, and enclaves, ensuring uninterrupted operation.

  • Infrastructure Planning: Played a pivotal role in planning small-scale server, storage, and network installations, decommissions, and relocations, optimizing resource utilization.

  • Change Management: Executed critical Change Management tasks, including network migrations, rack-level power management, and cable management to enhance operational efficiency.

  • Alert Response and On-call Duties: Actively responded to alerts and assumed on-call duties, guaranteeing rapid incident resolution and system availability.

  • Hardware Maintenance: Offered hardware repair services, ensuring the reliability and longevity of critical equipment.

  • IT Advisor (DCIM / ELCM): Maintained an accurate and up-to-date inventory of equipment in the data centers, including installation location, serial numbers, server names, and cabling diagrams, utilizing IT Advisor.

  • Data Center Expert (Environment Monitoring): Effectively acknowledged and responded to alerts generated by Data Center Expert (DCE), collaborating with the team to ensure power and cooling resources met the data center's demands.

  • RFCode (Environment Monitoring): Acknowledged and promptly addressed alerts identified by the RFCode monitoring tool, maintaining optimal environmental conditions.

  • Device Configurations: Configured baseline settings for various devices, including RPDU, PDU, UPS, ATS, CRAC, and NetBotz, with a focus on manufacturers like APC, ServerTech, Raritan, Eaton, MGE, Schneider Electric, and Emerson.

  • Server Management Configurations: Expertly configured baseline settings for out-of-band management of rack-mounted servers and chassis/blade servers, with a specialization in OEMs such as HP (OA and ILO), Supermicro (BMC), and Dell (iDRAC).

  • Remote Console Configurations: Managed console access configurations, distinct from onboard management systems, utilizing Avocent's (now Vertiv's) DSView software to facilitate efficient remote management.

My tenure at Qualcomm's ITOS exemplifies my dedication to ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of mission-critical IT infrastructure, as well as my ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and manage complex technical environments.
